Plot summary
Mike Edwards and Danny Burke earn a living with a crop duster, and Danny has run through the money Mike set aside for their debts. A local sheriff seizes the plane and gives them a week to pay before it goes to auction. The two hitchhike and get a lift from apple farmer Walter Ling, who is traveling with his niece Sue-Lin. In Seattle, at the World's Fair, the uncle is called away and Danny talks Mike into taking the girl to see the fair. There Mike meets Diane Warren, a nurse who turns down his attention; he pays a boy a quarter to kick his shin so that she has to treat him. Diane's supervisor arranges a ride for him.
