Paul Mazursky
Biography
Paul Mazursky was an American director, writer, and actor who started in movies as a performer in Stanley Kubrick's Fear and Desire (1953) and Blackboard Jungle (1955). After writing for television, including the pilot of The Monkees, he wrote the screenplay for I Love You, Alice B. Toklas (1968). His first directing credit, Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969), which he co-wrote, became a major critical and commercial success and brought him an Academy Award nomination. He built a reputation for dramatic comedies about modern social issues, among them Harry and Tonto (1974), An Unmarried Woman (1978), Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986), and Enemies, a Love Story (1989). Over his career he received five Oscar nominations. He also acted in later films such as Carlito's Way (1993) and voiced the Psychologist in Antz (1998).

For I Love You, Alice B. Toklas, Mazursky was set to direct, but star Peter Sellers picked Hy Averback instead.
