Plot summary
Terry Thorpe makes his living as a film critic. During a spat, his lover falls, strikes her head and dies, and Thorpe conceals what happened before leaving the apartment. A private investigator had been trailing the woman for her ex-husband, and once he works out what took place in the apartment he begins a blackmail scheme against Thorpe. The police take up the case as well, under Detective Fred Stapelli, a man with ambitions of writing for the screen, and Thorpe becomes his chief suspect. Kit Wannamaker, Thorpe's regular girlfriend, and Patricia Stapelli, the detective's wife, are drawn into the matter too.
