Plot summary
Alex Morrison has completed his first feature, and the previews rate it a critical, artistic and commercial success. His next project now seems to be his own to pick, though he feels he must answer his hit with another blockbuster. He turns that problem over while his mind drifts to his past, the present and a future he pictures. Making the rounds of the Hollywood community and of European movie centers, he looks for a subject, and the ordinary situations he encounters become imagined film scenes.
