Plot summary
A young ex-monk named Juvenal seems to heal people by touch, and strange marks appear on his skin from time to time. Bill Hill, a former evangelist who now sells mobile homes, sees a fortune to be made from Juvenal and asks Lynn Faulkner, a friend and former associate, to get close to him and steer him toward a bigger career. She does, and she and Juvenal fall in love, which complicates Hill's plans for book deals and television talk shows. The Reverend August Murray, a fundamentalist, objects to their relationship and wants Juvenal freed from Lynn, whom he blames for drawing him away.
