Plot summary
Roy Foxx is shot in bed at the San Fernando Valley house of his ex-wife, the Olympic athlete Becky Foxx, and two hit men, Lee Woods and Dosmo Pizzo, drive away. The killing draws in a scatter of Valley residents: a nurse, a wealthy art dealer and the assistant who looks after him, a television director who has thought about suicide, a vice cop paired with a rookie, and two jealous women caught up in the same scheme. Becky wakes, finds Roy's body and runs from the house, where patrolmen Wes Taylor and Alvin Strayer stop to help her.
