Paul Freeman
Biography
Paul Freeman is an English actor whose career has moved between theater, television, and film. Born in Barnet, Hertfordshire, he started in advertising and teaching, then took small stage roles in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Hamlet and appeared at the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television debut came in 1978 in Will Shakespeare, and in 1980 he moved into features, appearing in The Long Good Friday and The Dogs of War. In 1981, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas selected him to play René Belloq, the rival archaeologist in Raiders of the Lost Ark, opposite Harrison Ford, a part that typecast him as villains, especially Nazis. He later played Gustav Riebmann in Falcon Crest, Professor Moriarty in Without a Clue (1988), and Ivan Ooze in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995). The Los Angeles Times in 1995 called him one of Britain's best-regarded classically trained actors.
