Plot summary
Jack B. Nife once wrote children's books, and his unpublished Harold the Hedgehog took over his life until his marriage ended. He now writes Decades of Death, manuscripts about Victorian era serial killers, and the research has convinced him that people watch him and mean to kill him. A killer called the Hanoi Handshake Killer, who cuts off his victims' fingers, has been active nearby. Jack's agent Clair calls to say that Harvey Humphries, who oversees scripts at the BBC, wants to discuss Jack's work within hours. Jack believes Humphries is a killer and plans to go anyway.
