Biography

Patrick Bergin is an Irish actor and singer. Born in Dublin, he moved to London in 1973, ran a theater company before turning to acting full-time in 1980, and finding work in repertory theater. Mountains of the Moon (1990) cast him as explorer Sir Richard Francis Burton, and he took a BAFTA Cymru Best Actor award for Morphine and Dolly Mixtures. In the 1991 thriller Sleeping with the Enemy he was the threatening husband of Julia Roberts's character, and that year he took the title role in Robin Hood, with Uma Thurman as Maid Marian. He appeared as the Irish terrorist Kevin O'Donnell in the 1992 adaptation of Tom Clancy's Patriot Games, and in 2013 he played Glasgow gangster Arthur Thompson in the Scottish film The Wee Man (2013). From late 2017 to 2018 he played Aidan Maguire in the BBC soap opera EastEnders. His music work includes leading his group, Patrick Bergin and the Spirit Merchants.
