Plot summary
An assignment for the intelligence agent Stephen Wilson, known as the Eye, is to find out what trouble the wealthy boss's socialite son has gotten himself into. Hilary, a computer technician and fellow agent, supplies him with information by telephone. Following the son brings Stephen to Joanna Eris, who is in a relationship with him. When he finally has her cornered at Penn Station in Pittsburgh, ready to call Hilary for backup, he does not turn her in; he follows her, hoping to save her. He also keeps seeing his young daughter Lucy, who lives with his ex-wife, beside him, and he comes to see Joanna as a lost and vulnerable child.
