Plot summary
Mark Taffin works as a debt collector in Ballymoran, a small Irish town, and relies on his intelligence and martial arts training to recover money that people are owed. He takes a restaurant owner's car in payment of a debt, helps three young men who were sold a faulty van, and assists Charlotte, a barmaid whose employer is giving her trouble; she becomes his girlfriend. A local council member, Gibson, is working with a landowner, Henderson, to hide who owns a meadow, so that a sports field rather than the meadow is sold for a chemical plant planned beside it. The syndicate behind the plant sends thugs, among them Conway, to keep the locals quiet.
