Biography

Lake Bell is an American actress, screenwriter, and director who got her start in 2002 with the film Speakeasy and the medical drama ER. She was born in New York City and trained at Rose Bruford College in London. On television she played Sally Heep on The Practice and Boston Legal, led the science fiction series Surface, and later starred in Childrens Hospital and co-created Bless This Mess. Her film work includes Over Her Dead Body (2008), What Happens in Vegas (2008), It's Complicated (2009), No Strings Attached (2011), and Shot Caller (2017). She wrote, directed, and starred in the features In a World... (2013) and I Do... Until I Don't (2017), and her short Worst Enemy won a screenwriting award from the Nantucket Film Festival. She has voiced roles in Shrek Forever After (2010), The Secret Life of Pets (2016), and The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019), and appeared as Dr. Graham in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).

    Bell was cast as Deputy Judy Hicks in Scream 4, but scheduling conflicts made her leave the project four days before filming started, and Marley Shelton ended up with the role.
