Plot summary
Alice Guy-Blaché, who lived from 1873 to 1968, was a pioneer of cinema and the first woman to direct, write and produce movies and to own a studio of her own. She made hundreds of movies, among them the first narrative fiction film. The standard histories of the movies left her out, and she went ignored and forgotten. A documentary investigates the full scope of her life and work and asks how a filmmaker so central to the beginnings of the medium could be dropped from the record. The project was launched with a Kickstarter campaign, and other crowdfunding followed.
