Plot summary
Joy McNally trades commodity futures in New York, and at the surprise birthday party she arranged for her fiancé, Mason, he ends their engagement. Jack Fuller Jr., a carpenter, loses his job when his father fires him. Each travels to Las Vegas with a best friend, the bartender Tipper and the lawyer Hater. A computer error at their hotel puts Joy and Jack in the same room, and after a night of heavy drinking they wake up married. Before they can undo it, Jack puts a quarter Joy gave him into a slot machine and wins three million dollars. Joy says that as his wife she is owed half. A judge freezes the winnings and orders that they cannot divorce until they have lived together for six months and attended weekly sessions with the marriage counselor Dr. Twitchell.
