Keye Luke
Biography
Born in Guangzhou and raised in Seattle, Keye Luke was an American actor and visual artist who became a leading Asian presence in mid-20th-century Hollywood. He contributed murals to Grauman's Chinese Theatre and artwork to the King Kong pressbook before studio art led him into films. He made his screen debut in The Painted Veil (1934) and took his first major role as Lee Chan, Charlie Chan's eldest son, beginning with Charlie Chan in Paris (1935). He played Lee Chan seven times opposite Warner Oland and later returned to the role in Mr. Moto's Gamble (1938). He played Mr. Wong in Phantom of Chinatown (1940) and Kato in the Green Hornet serials. He appeared on Broadway in Flower Drum Song (1958), played Master Po on Kung Fu, voiced Brak on Space Ghost, and portrayed Mr. Wing in Gremlins (1984) and Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990). He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Asian/Pacific American Artists in 1986.
