Plot summary
London bankers hire Charlie Chan to investigate forged bonds issued by the Lamartine Bank, and he arrives in Paris posing as a tourist. Paul Lamartine runs the bank, and his daughter Yvette is engaged to Victor Descartes, Lamartine's ward, who is expected to take charge of the business. Victor introduces Chan to his friend Max Corday, a painter, and Chan's son Lee is in the city with him. Chan's agent in Paris is Nardi, a dancer at a club the group visits that night; she promises to tell him later what she has found. Before Chan can reach the bank, a blind man named Marcel Xavier asks him for change and is led away by a police officer.
