Kent Smith
Biography
Kent Smith was an American actor who worked in film, theater and television. Born in New York City and educated at Harvard University, he helped found the Harvard University Players in 1925 before making his professional debut in 1929 in Baltimore. He reached Broadway in 1932 with Men Must Fight and later appeared there in Dodsworth, Saint Joan, Old Acquaintance and Bus Stop. He moved to Hollywood, where The Garden Murder Case became his first film, and his biggest successes came in the 1940s with Cat People (1942), This Land Is Mine (1943), The Curse of the Cat People (1944), The Spiral Staircase (1946), Nora Prentiss (1947), The Fountainhead (1949) and The Damned Don't Cry (1950). Later films included Sayonara (1957), Party Girl (1958) and Lost Horizon (1973). On television he played Dr. Morton on Peyton Place and Edgar Scoville on The Invaders, and appeared in the TV movies The Night Stalker (1972) and The Cat Creature (1973).
