Plot summary
Peter Van Hoek and John McBain leave the Arizona Territorial Prison in 1898. Van Hoek, a mining engineer and geologist nicknamed The Dutchman, insists he was framed over the gold taken from the Lisbon Mine. McBain did time for killing Bascomb, the man who swindled him out of his land. The pair travel separately to Prescott, the town of the Lisbon Mine, and find they are not wanted there. The marshal, whom Van Hoek blames for his conviction, tells him to take the next stagecoach at sundown the following day, and Van Hoek promises to be on it. Deputy Leslie sets McBain the same deadline. Van Hoek gets Sample to introduce him to Cyril Lounsberry, whose wife owns the mine, and offers ore from a deposit only he knows of.
