Biography

Jon Tenney is an American actor who became known for playing Special Agent Fritz Howard in the TNT series The Closer and its spin-off Major Crimes. Born in Princeton, New Jersey, he earned a B.A. from Vassar College in 1984, majoring in drama and philosophy, and later trained at Juilliard's Drama Division. His first acting work was on tour with Mike Nichols' The Real Thing, and he went on to work on and off-Broadway, appearing in plays including Biloxi Blues and The Heiress. On television he starred in series such as Brooklyn South and Kristin. He played Fritz Howard from 2005 to 2012, then continued in Major Crimes from 2012 to 2018, and later appeared in Brothers & Sisters, King & Maxwell and Scandal. His films include Tombstone (1993), Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home (1995), Fools Rush In (1997), The Stepfather (2009), Rabbit Hole (2010) and Green Lantern (2011).
