Jim Davis
Biography
Jim Davis was an American actor who became best known for television Westerns and, late in his career, for playing Jock Ewing on Dallas. Born in Edgerton, Missouri, he attended William Jewell College in Liberty, where he played football. In 1948 he played opposite Bette Davis in Winter Meeting, his first major screen role, then worked largely in B movies, many of them Westerns, and drew attention as a U.S. Senator in The Parallax View (1974). He appeared 13 times on Death Valley Days, starred and narrated Stories of the Century, and led the adventure series Rescue 8 from 1958 to 1960, and also guest-starred on Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, Wagon Train, Laramie and Daniel Boone. He had small parts in Rio Lobo (1970) and Big Jake (1971), starred as Marshal Bill Winter in The Cowboys in 1974, and from 1978 played Jock Ewing on Dallas, a role that earned him a posthumous Primetime Emmy nomination in 1981.
