Harry Locke

Biography

Born in London, Harry Locke was an English character actor who began performing as a teenager, joining the Questors Theatre Company in Ealing in 1936, when he was still known as Lionel Locke. After serving in the military from 1940, he returned to acting and spent three decades in British cinema, usually in small roles such as Cockneys, clerks, porters, cab drivers, and working men. His films included Carry On Nurse (1959), The Devil-Ship Pirates (1964), The Family Way (1966), and The Creeping Flesh (1973). On television, he appeared as a night porter in Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) in 1969 and as Platon Karataev in the BBC's War and Peace in 1972. His final role was as a gardener in a 1977 episode of Just William. He died in 1987.
