James Robertson Justice
Biography
James Robertson Justice was a British actor who became known for playing pompous men in authority in comedy films. He took up acting after wartime naval service at a London music hall club and was recommended for For Those in Peril (1944). His first leading part was a headmaster in Vice Versa (1948). He played Little John in The Story of Robin Hood (1952) and appeared with Gregory Peck in adventure movies such as Captain Horatio Hornblower (1951) and Moby Dick (1956). In The Guns of Navarone (1961) he acted in a major role and also narrated. His best-known character was the demanding surgeon Sir Lancelot Spratt, first played in Doctor in the House (1954) and later in Doctor in Trouble (1970). He helped launch Scottish Television in 1957, hosted its first program, This is Scotland, and served as Rector of the University of Edinburgh from 1957 until 1960 and again from 1963 until 1966.

In his films, Justice was occasionally billed as Seumas Mòr na Feusag, which is Scottish Gaelic for Big James with the Beard, and also as James R. Justice, James Robertson or James Robertson-Justice.

On 31 August 1957, Justice helped launch the TV station Scottish Television, known as STV, and he hosted the channel's first show, This is Scotland.
