Biography

Colin Gordon was a British actor who died in 1972. Born in British Ceylon and schooled at Marlborough College and Christ Church, Oxford, he began in repertory at the Palace Theatre in Watford in 1934 and reached the West End that same year, first as the hind legs of the carthorse Alfred in Toad of Toad Hall. Stage work remained central, mostly in the West End but also on tour, and he led the Fred Melville Repertory Company in Brixton between 1936 and 1939. His screen career, often in comedies, included The Man in the White Suit (1951), The Mouse That Roared (1959), and The Pink Panther (1963), and he was frequently cast as government officials. On television he appeared twice as Number Two in The Prisoner (1967), was a regular in The Baron, and hosted The Complete and Utter History of Britain (1969). He also played Tony Fellows in the radio series A Life of Bliss from 1953 onward.
