Carol Sutton
Biography
Carol Sutton was an American actress whose career spanned theater, film and television. A New Orleans native, she became a member of the Dashiki Project Theatre in the 1960s, and her first screen work came in 1974 with The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, a television film. She went on to build a long list of supporting roles, appearing in Steel Magnolias, Monster's Ball and Ray, the films for which she was best known, along with The Pelican Brief and Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, plus Kidnap, True Detective, American Horror Story: Coven, The Last Exorcism (2010), Killer Joe (2011) and Outer Banks. Sutton taught acting in her hometown, and in 2019 she played Lena Younger in Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun. She was honored with a New Orleans Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and died in 2020.
