Biography

Afemo Omilami is an American actor from Petersburg, Virginia. His most recognized screen role is the drill sergeant in Forrest Gump (1994), and his film credits include Glory (1989), Trading Places (1983), The Firm (1993), Gordy (1995), Ray (2004), Remember the Titans (2000), Terminator Genisys (2015), Hounddog (2007), and The Blind Side (2009). On television, he played Jimmy Dawes, a streetwise character, across several episodes of In the Heat of the Night between 1989 and 1993. For his portrayal of Drum Eatenton in the Lifetime film Steel Magnolias (2012), he received a 2013 NAACP Image Award nomination. Guest spots took him to Raising Dion, The Shield, and Miami Vice, along with Fortune Hunter, New York News, and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.
