Tim Meadows
Biography
Tim Meadows is an American actor and comedian who made his start in improvisational comedy at Detroit's Soup Kitchen Saloon before joining the Second City troupe in Chicago. Born in Highland Park, Michigan, he came to Saturday Night Live in 1991 and stayed for ten seasons, earning a 1993 Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. On SNL he was known for impressions and for his original character Leon Phelps, the Ladies' Man, which led to the 2000 film The Ladies Man. He later played Principal Duvall in Mean Girls (2004), a role he returned to in Mean Girls 2 and the 2024 musical adaptation. His film work includes The Benchwarmers (2006), Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007), and The Cookout (2004). On television, he had a main role on Schooled after recurring on The Goldbergs, and starred in Son of Zorn.

Big break
In Fall 1990, Lorne Michaels, who produced Saturday Night Live, watched Meadows act at Second City. Michaels took him to a New York meeting, where Meadows read a sketch line with Steve Martin, Paul Simon, and Ralph Nader, all without an audition.
A first
Meadows spent 10 seasons on the show, which stood as the longest tenure until Darrell Hammond passed it in 2005. Kenan Thompson later passed Hammond's record in 2017.
Early training
Meadows first did improvisational comedy in Detroit, at the Soup Kitchen Saloon. In Chicago, he joined The Second City comedy troupe, where Chris Farley was also a member.
Behind the camera
Tim Meadows got his own original SNL character, Leon Phelps, "The Ladies' Man," a talk-show host who wrongly thought he was the living definition of what women want in a man. The character became a 2000 film, The Ladies' Man.
Early training
Before his comedy career began, Meadows studied at Wayne State University, and in 2022 that same university gave him an honorary doctorate.
