Plot summary
Sophie dreams of a man raking leaves beside a swimming pool. She floats up toward the sky, calls to him for help, and the man is her father, Paul Matthews, who teaches evolutionary biology at a university. Claire, a journalist who once dated Paul, sees him out with his wife Janet and mentions that she dreams about him. Paul agrees that she can write about it, and hundreds of strangers come forward saying they have seen him too. Paul welcomes the coverage but resents being shown as passive and uninteresting.
