Kevin James
Biography
Kevin James is a comedian and actor whose career began with stand-up work on Long Island in the late 1980s, leading to a long run as a sitcom lead. He played Doug Heffernan, a parcel delivery man, on the CBS series The King of Queens from 1998 to 2007, a role that brought him a Primetime Emmy nomination in 2006. His first starring film part came in the romantic comedy Hitch (2005), and he followed it with I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007), Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009), Grown Ups (2010), Zookeeper (2011), Here Comes the Boom (2012), and Pixels (2015). He voiced characters in Monster House, Barnyard, and the Hotel Transylvania films. He also took dramatic parts in The Dilemma (2011), Little Boy (2015), and Becky (2020), and played coach Sean Payton in Home Team (2022). His stand-up specials include Kevin James: Sweat the Small Stuff (2001) and Kevin James: Irregardless (2024).

About the name
Kevin James adopted the stage surname James in honor of his favorite school teacher while performing with a comedy troupe at Richie Minervini's East Side Comedy Club.
First role
James's first television job came in 1991 on The New Candid Camera, where he played the actor pulling practical jokes on unsuspecting people using his comedy timing and improvisation skills.
Big break
James moved to Los Angeles, where he became friends with Ray Romano and appeared as a guest on a few episodes of Romano's CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. Those guest spots resulted in his own sitcom, The King of Queens, on CBS.
Behind the camera
In 2011, James took a lead role alongside Vince Vaughn in the comedy-drama The Dilemma. That same year he appeared with Rosario Dawson in Zookeeper, a film he wrote and produced.
