Biography

Taryn Manning is an American actress and singer who began acting in the late 1990s, taking small television roles on series including The Practice, NYPD Blue, Get Real and Boston Public. She was born in Falls Church, Virginia, and raised in Tucson, Arizona. Her film debut came with Crazy/Beautiful (2001), followed by Crossroads (2002), 8 Mile (2002), Cold Mountain (2003) and A Lot Like Love (2005). Her breakthrough was as Nola in Hustle & Flow (2005), and later credits include Weirdsville (2007), The Devil's Tomb (2009) and Kill Theory (2009). She played Tiffany Doggett in Orange Is the New Black from 2013 to 2019 and Michelle Knight in Cleveland Abduction (2015). Manning also formed the band Boomkat, whose single The Wreckoning reached number one on the Hot Dance Music Club Play chart, and has released solo singles, including Send Me Your Love, which topped the Dance Club Songs chart.

Big break
Manning's breakthrough came when director Craig Brewer spotted her photograph in a photography book and decided the actress playing Nola in Hustle & Flow had to look just like her.
A first
Manning put out the solo single "Gltchlfe" on May 5, 2017, and it hit number 1 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs Chart that August, her second chart-topper after "Send Me Your Love" in 2012.
A change of course
Manning appeared on Season 16 of the celebrity edition of Worst Cooks in America. She left the show during the second episode because she would not eat a chicken foot.
