Emily Friehl and Oliver Martin meet while flying from Los Angeles to New York, where she jumps him in the restroom. She is aloof once they are on the ground, but the two run into each other again in the city and spend part of the day together, wandering and taking photographs with his camera. Oliver has his life mapped out: he intends to become an Internet entrepreneur and is sure that success, and later a family, are coming to him. Before they part, he hands Emily his mother's phone number and asks her to ring it in six years to see whether he was right.
