Biography

Simon Yam is a Hong Kong actor and producer who began as a model and moved into acting in the mid-1970s. After signing with TVB, he entered the film industry in 1987. His film credits include Bloodfight (1989), a Japanese-Hong Kong co-production, and Full Contact (1992), for which he received critical acclaim as a maniacal judge. He played Dhalsim in the Wong Jing comedy Future Cops (1993) and portrayed triad leader Chiang Tin-Sung in the first three Young and Dangerous films starting in 1996. In 2000 he starred as vampire progenitor Cheung San in My Date with a Vampire II. He made his Hollywood debut in Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) and is known for Johnnie To collaborations including PTU (2003), Election (2005), Triangle (2007), and Sparrow (2008). He directed part of Tales from the Dark 1 in 2013 and won a Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor for Echoes of the Rainbow (2010).
