Plot summary
Four orphans, Ying, Sao, Yuanlong and Niehu, grow up together in Taoyuan Village as blood brothers. After they kill a Japanese troop leader, Ying is ordered to carry the Golden Wheel of Time home from Sindu, a device said to hold the power of time travel. Papers seized on that mission let Tu, the Chief of National Defense, match a traitor's handwriting. In the snow Sao, Yuanlong and Niehu confront Ying with news that Tu's family has been murdered and name him the killer, and the Emperor orders his clan killed. Troops march on Taoyuan to wipe out the villagers, and the four are buried by an avalanche during the fight. Centuries later they are dug up and thawed in modern Hong Kong.
