Plot summary
Macau is preparing to pass from Portuguese to Chinese rule, and in 1998 the city is full of people chasing quick money. Wo, a former mobster, has left the gang behind and shares a quiet apartment with Jin, his wife, and their baby. Boss Fay, whom Wo once tried to assassinate, has not forgotten, and he sends a pair of aging hitmen to end Wo's retirement. Wo's childhood friends and fellow hitmen, Blaze, Fat, Tai and Cat, arrive in Macau, and the group argues over whether to carry out the order or stand with Wo. A brief standoff ends in an uneasy truce, and the men, who grew up in the same gang, sit down to dinner.

- A triad agreement handshake, in which Simon Yam's gangster turns his left hand around to clasp another man's, earned Exiled a Category III rating in Hong Kong. Only a Category IIB cut played in cinemas there, though the scene survives on the Mega-Star uncut Limited Edition DVD.
- The Indian Malayalam-language film Bachelor Party, released on 15 June 2012, was an uncredited remake of Johnnie To's Exiled.
