Robert F. Simon

Biography

Robert F. Simon was an American character actor who got his start in 1935 with the Community Players in his native Mansfield, Ohio, while he was a clerk in a meat market, and then acted with the Cleveland Playhouse. On Broadway he appeared in Clifford Odets's Clash by Night and took over the role of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman in 1949. After moving to Los Angeles in 1954 he turned to film and television, playing in Chief Crazy Horse (1955), Edge of the City (1957), Compulsion (1959), Operation Petticoat (1959), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), Captain Newman, M.D. (1963), A New Kind of Love (1963) and The Reluctant Astronaut (1967). On television he played Frank Stephens on Bewitched, Captain Rudy Olsen on The Streets of San Francisco and J. Jonah Jameson on The Amazing Spider-Man.
