Plot summary
Steve Sherman is a newspaper columnist sent to Paris after he sleeps with his publisher's wife. On the flight he meets Samantha Blake, called Sam, a designer for a New York firm that copies couture and sells it cheaply; she travels with her boss, Joe Bergner, and her colleague Lena O'Connor to study French fashion houses. Steve mistakes her for a man, and they dislike each other at once. During the St. Catherine's Day celebration, an intoxicated Sam has a vision of St. Catherine advising her how to attract a husband, and after a salon appointment she emerges with blonde hair, red lipstick and glamorous new clothes. At a café Steve does not recognize her and takes her for a high-class prostitute; Sam, calling herself Mimi, plays along.
