Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Star Trek: Section 31 (2025)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Star Trek: Section 31 started life as a planned spin-off series, but Alex Kurtzman began converting it into a film in mid-2022 after realizing Michelle Yeoh could win an Academy Award for Everything Everywhere All at Once and her schedule would likely get much busier.
- Michelle Yeoh pitched the spin-off herself to executive producer Alex Kurtzman while filming the first season of Star Trek: Discovery, saying she wanted to be a role model for young Asian women.
- Ahead of filming, director Olatunde Osunsanmi had the cast watch the Mission: Impossible films and Crimson Tide as reference, and they rehearsed the action with stunt coordinator Chris McGuire before production began.
- Section 31 filmed at the same time as the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, with both sharing visual effects company Pixomondo's Toronto video wall stage; Kacey Rohl said she rarely performed against a bare backdrop, joking it meant "it wasn't a lot of quietly acting opposite a tennis ball".
