Tika Sumpter
Biography
Tika Sumpter, an American actress and producer, first worked as a co-host on the reality show Best Friend's Date and then spent 2005 to 2010 on the daytime soap One Life to Live, a role that brought her an NAACP Image Award nomination. She moved into film with Stomp the Yard: Homecoming (2010) and supporting parts in What's Your Number? (2011), Sparkle (2012), and A Madea Christmas (2013). For eight seasons she played Candace Young on The Haves and the Have Nots, from 2013 to 2021, while taking roles in Ride Along (2014), Ride Along 2 (2016), Get On Up (2014), The Old Man & the Gun (2018), and Nobody's Fool (2018). She co-produced and led Southside with You (2016) as Michelle Robinson Obama, earning Gotham Awards and NAACP Image Award nominations, and later starred in Mixed-ish and the Sonic the Hedgehog films (2020, 2022, 2024). Her directing debut was the short Night Off.
