Plot summary
To get his son Kajani into a mostly white private school, Lincoln Jefferson works there as a janitor. The recently divorced Marine and Iraq War veteran is driving the boy home late one night from a friend's house in an affluent neighborhood when police pull them over, and body and dash cameras record officer Mike Randall shooting Kajani in front of his father. A year later, a student filmmaker, Jordin King, asks to interview Jefferson on the day a grand jury announces whether Randall will face trial. The officer is cleared, and a police captain appeals to Kajani's mother, Tayana, to call for calm. After watching her speak on television, Jefferson decides to act himself.
