Lena Olin
Biography
Lena Olin is a Swedish actress who studied at the National Academy of Dramatic Art and spent more than a decade with the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm, appearing in plays by Shakespeare and Strindberg. Ingmar Bergman, who mentored her, gave her a small part in Face to Face (1976) and later cast her in Fanny and Alexander and After the Rehearsal (1984), and she toured with his King Lear as Cordelia. Her international breakthrough came with The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988), which brought a Golden Globe nomination, and she earned an Academy Award nomination for Enemies, a Love Story (1989) and a BAFTA nomination for Chocolat (2000). Her films also include Havana (1990), Romeo Is Bleeding (1993), The Ninth Gate (1999), Casanova (2005) and The Reader (2008). On television she played Irina Derevko in Alias, earning a Primetime Emmy nomination, and later appeared in Riviera and Hunters.

Behind the award
Lena Olin was one of the earliest recipients of the Ingmar Bergman Award at the Guldbagge Awards in 1980, a prize created by Bergman himself in 1978, who also served as one of its two judges.
Big break
Ingmar Bergman gave Olin a part in Face to Face in 1976. The next year, she started performing in Stockholm on the national stage, in productions that Bergman directed.
Beyond film
Olin played Cordelia in Bergman's production of King Lear, which toured internationally to Paris, Berlin, New York, Copenhagen, Moscow and Oslo.

Olin's first American television role came in 2002, when she joined Alias for its second season as Irina Derevko. Her work on the series earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in 2003.
