Plot summary
Dr. Jenny Isaksson is a psychiatrist whose husband Eric is at a medical congress in Chicago and whose daughter Anna is at summer camp. The family's old house has been emptied and a new one is being built, so Jenny stays with her grandparents in the house she grew up in and takes a temporary post as senior doctor at a psychiatric hospital. There she treats Mari, a violent patient who says that Jenny cannot help her because she has never known love. At a party Jenny meets Tomas Jacobi, a divorced doctor, and the two become companions. Moving back into her old bedroom disturbs her, and she begins to see a one-eyed old woman in her dreams and in waking visions.
