Biography

Anita Ekberg was a Swedish actress who worked in American and European films. Born in Malmö, she began as a fashion model, won the Miss Sweden contest, and went to the United States for the Miss Universe pageant, where she was a finalist, and earned a starlet contract at Universal Studios. She trained in drama, elocution, dance, riding, and fencing before John Wayne signed her to Batjac Productions. Her first real speaking role came in Blood Alley (1955), and she soon appeared in Artists and Models (1955), War and Peace (1956), and Hollywood or Bust (1956). She became prominent as Sylvia in Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960), and she settled in Rome. She later worked in Boccaccio '70 (1962), 4 for Texas (1963), The Alphabet Murders (1965), and Woman Times Seven (1967). Fellini brought her back for cameos, and she appeared in the Italian television series Il bello delle donne in 2001. She died in 2015.
