Plot summary
In the 1870s, a stagecoach bound for Galveston carries $100,000 in cash, and a railroad official rides with it. The outlaw Matson wants the money, and two passengers, the sharpshooters Zack Thomas and Joe Jarrett, fight off his gang. Afterward the two men quarrel over the cash themselves. Both reach Galveston with the same ambition: a waterfront casino, run from a riverboat, Thomas with Elya Carlson at his side and Jarrett with Maxine Richter. Matson arrives too and gathers accomplices for his own schemes. Harvey Burden, the banker who runs the Galveston Savings & Trust, has plans that touch both rivals as well.
