Plot summary
A model in Rome, Sylvia Morelle is two weeks from her wedding to Dr. Piero Luciani when word comes that her mother has died and left her a castle and the rank of countess. She goes to Castle Walbrook to sign the documents, leaving Piero and his friend Max behind. At the village inn, the locals are horrified by her destination. The manservant Vladis tells her the count does not rise before ten at night. Her uncle appears at that hour, looking young, and shows her a portrait of her grandmother Malenka, whom she resembles. That night a dark-haired woman, Velinka, wakes her and urges her to leave the castle.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Fangs of the Living Dead (1969)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Boris Karloff was approached to play the vampire Count Walbrooke in Amando de Ossorio's Malenka, but turned the role down after contractual wrangles and died before the film was finished; Julián Ugarte played the count instead.
SPOILER
In the original Spanish version, Uncle Walbrooke's vampire act is a hoax to drive his niece mad, but an alternative supernatural ending was later filmed for the English-language version, in which he really does disintegrate into a skeleton, contradicting the rest of the film.- Carlo Savina's musical score for Malenka was reused in the 1971 low-budget horror film La notte dei dannati; Savina later became the music director on films such as The Godfather and Amarcord.
- Malenka is one of the first vampire films from Spain, inspired by the Italian and British vampire films being released at the same time, such as Dance of the Vampires.
