Plot summary
In Northern California, while showering on the beach, Virginia Wilson is attacked by an escaped madman from a sanitarium. He stabs her dog and then attacks her. Her stepbrother Charlie shoots him dead with a rifle. After the assault, Virginia is committed to a sanitarium. A psychiatrist, who has fallen in love with her, helps her leave the institution. She becomes a dancer at El Madhouse, a night club run by Joann 'Gypsy' Mapes. She performs under the name Yolanda Lange. At the club, Joann 'Gypsy' Mapes performs 'Put the Blame on Mame.' All the while, a serial killer is stalking her.
