Plot summary
Ten years after a police shootout, Baby Firefly, Otis Driftwood and Captain Spaulding are tried for their crimes. The trial airs nationwide and draws protests from supporters who chant "Free the Three." All three are convicted and sentenced to life in prison, and Captain Spaulding is executed by lethal injection. Winslow Foxworth Coltrane, Otis's half-brother, arrives during Otis's work on a chain gang and helps him escape. Baby, whose mental state has deteriorated behind bars, is denied parole. Otis and Winslow then plot to break her out by kidnapping the family and friends of warden Virgil Harper, demanding that Harper smuggle Baby from the prison.
