Plot summary
Tian Industries operates the Kepler 822, a research and drilling station on the floor of the Mariana Trench. An earthquake rips the facility open, and mechanical engineer Norah Price, Rodrigo and Paul make their way toward the escape pod bay. All of the pods have already launched, and Captain Lucien is the only one there. In a control room they come across Emily Haversham, a biologist, and Liam Smith, an engineer, whose radio calls to the surface have gone unanswered. Lucien proposes putting on pressurized suits and walking a mile across the seafloor to Roebuck 641. A distress beacon from an escape pod below sends Liam and Paul outside to look.
