Plot summary
In 2022, a young Charlie Roan watches her family die on Purge night. Eighteen years later she is a US Senator running for president on a promise to end the Purge, and Leo Barnes, a former police sergeant who opposes the annual night of legal crime, heads her security. The New Founding Fathers hold the White House and field their own candidate, Minister Edwidge Owens, and they revoke the immunity of government officials so that Roan can be killed legally. She refuses to leave the city, wanting to stand with her supporters. Deli owner Joe Dixon, his assistant Marcos Dali and EMT Laney Rucker watch her televised debate, and Joe finds his Purge coverage premiums have risen beyond what he can pay. On Purge night Joe and Marcos guard the store while Laney drives the streets treating the wounded.
