Plot summary
In the New Mexico Territory, Joe Baker is an aging bandit with a plan. Dover McBride, the woman he is engaged to, is traveling from the East, and her brother Tommy rides with him. What Baker aims at is a bandit hoard over the border in Mexico, too well guarded to take without a Gatling gun. The outlaw Jonny Cobb will sell him one, asking a woman as the price. Colonel Morgan, close to retiring from the Army command in the territory, hears from his scout Bookbinder that Baker has something in mind, though not what. Then a letter tells Baker that Dover is on her way, putting a deadline on his scheme, and his gang starts stopping stagecoaches looking for a woman to hand over.
