Vince Edwards
Biography
Vince Edwards, an American actor who also worked as a director and singer, attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before signing with Paramount Pictures in 1951. He made his film debut that year in Mister Universe, and major roles followed in film noirs such as The Killing (1956) and Murder by Contract (1958). He became a television star as the title character of the ABC medical drama Ben Casey, which ran from 1961 to 1966, and he also directed episodes of the show. During that period he appeared in the war film The Victors (1963) and released six albums. After the series ended, he acted in The Devil's Brigade (1968), The Desperados (1969), and The Mad Bomber (1973), and later played Hawk in Space Raiders (1983). He voiced Jake Rockwell in the animated Centurions and directed television into the early 1990s. His last film was The Fear (1995). He died in 1996.

Early training
Edwards trained in acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Anne Bancroft, John Cassavetes and Grace Kelly were among his classmates there.
A first
Ben Casey aired on ABC from 1961 to 1966 and turned Edwards into a television star. Reports differ on how many of its 154 episodes he directed, with numbers between seven and roughly 20, said to be his first regular directing work.

Edwards co-wrote the script for the 1973 television film Maneater with Marcus Demian and Jimmy Sangster, and he also directed it. It was his first directing job on a television film, after his Ben Casey episodes.

Vince Edwards directed the two-part "The Living Legend" episode of the original Battlestar Galactica. With Christian I. Nyby II, he co-wrote Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack (1979), a theatrical feature drawn largely from that episode for release outside the United States.
