Plot summary
Richard Strand, a psychology student, takes a group of fellow students to his family's rural cabin for a weekend retreat that doubles as his thesis study of fear. In the house they find Morty, a life-size wooden mannequin that Richard says was his childhood toy, and he sets it up as the figure each of them will confess their worst fears to. Troy jokes his way through the session, Leslie speaks of aging, Vance of poverty, and Mindy and Gerald of heights and religion, while Richard admits a fear of commitment tied to his mother's death in the cabin. Only his girlfriend Ashley holds back. Richard's uncle Pete arrives to stay with his girlfriend Tanya, and Morty turns up in places no one left him.

- The Fear was the first film to build a soundtrack entirely around horrorcore, with Esham's title track "The Fear (Morty's Theme)" and early tracks by pioneering horrorcore groups. Earlier horror films had used only individual horrorcore tracks, such as the Fat Boys' "Are You Ready for Freddy" for A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.
